Yokohama sponsors 'ultimate' challenge

Oct. 8, 2002

Yokohama Tire Corp. and its Geolander AT+ II tire will be the title sponsor for this year's Yokohama Geolander Ultimate Baja Challenge, part of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.

The challenge, held in partnership with Wide Open Baja, is scheduled for Nov. 19-24. Ten identical two-seat, open-wheel cars will be driven relay-style by teams of three drivers and three co-drivers.

As official entries in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, participating teams not only will compete against each other for winning honors in their own "BC Challenge" class, but also in the Baja 1000.

Each of the Yokohama Geolandar Ultimate Baja Challenge open-wheeled cars will feature 20-inch suspension travel A-arm suspensions, power steering, four-speed manual transmissions, 2.4-liter Porsche powerplants and Geolandar A/T+ II tires.

"Yokohama Tire has been a long-time supporter of the Wide Open Baja tour with our all-terrain tire, Geolandar A/T+ II," says Art Michalik, Yokohama's director of marketing communication.

"Becoming the title sponsor for the Yokohama Geolandar-Ultimate Baja Challenge allows us to demonstrate our continued support of off-road motorsports competition."
