Cooper Scores Its First OE Tire on a Mercedes

April 2, 2019

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE is a landmark SUV for Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. It's the first Mercedes vehicle to feature one of the company's tires as original equipment. The SUV is riding on the all-season Cooper Discoverer SRXLE in sizes 255/50R19XL and 275/50R20.

Cooper says the Discoverer SRXLE construction delivers maximum steering response, stability in handling maneuvers, and a smooth, comfortable ride.

The tread technology gives drivers confidence in vehicle control with traction in all weather conditions, while also improving fuel efficiency. The tire features a "finely tuned footprint" that interacts with the road surface to enhance vehicle control.

The tire also has Micro-Gauge Siping, as well as Aqua Vac Channels. The wide grooves in the tread improve the tire’s resistance to hydroplaning and provide more control and grip in heavy rain.

“The Mercedes-Benz GLE ranks among the world’s best luxury SUVs, and Cooper is proud that Daimler AG has selected our award-winning Cooper Discoverer SRXLE for these vehicles,” says Glenn Arbaugh, executive director of global light vehicle OE business and strategy for Cooper.

“We are excited to be producing these tires at our Tupelo, Miss. manufacturing facility, where the entire team is dedicated to the type of excellence it takes to be awarded OE production for vehicles of this caliber. Our selection for the Mercedes-Benz GLE speaks volumes about our product quality and ability to meet the needs of even the most discerning customers."
