BFNT drops Service Tire Truck Centers, Valley Tire

Dec. 18, 2007

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT) has informed two of its long-time commercial tire dealerships, Bethlehem, Pa.-based Service Tire Truck Centers (STTC) and Charleroi, Pa.-based Valley Tire Co., that it will terminate its relationship with them on Feb. 6.

In response to moderntiredealer.com's question about why STTC and Valley Tire were canceled, BFNT officials said, "BFNT is constantly evaluating its sales and distribution channels to maximize the strength of our brands and provide the highest level of service to our customers. As a result of this ongoing process, it is necessary from time to time to make adjustments in our market presence."

STTC had been a Bridgestone/Firestone dealer for more than 30 years. Valley Tire had been with Bridgestone/Firestone for 15 years.

Both are former Bandag retreaders. STTC switched to Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. in 2006; Valley Tire did the same in 2007.

STTC CEO Ron Bennett and Valley Tire President Jim Stankiewicz say BFNT told them the decision was made to eliminate future conflicts in the marketplace.

"Bridgstone has always been a good partner to dealers, but I guess that will only apply if you are Bandag as well," says Bennett.
