Cooper Tire scientist wins award from The Tire Society

Oct. 8, 2007

A paper co-authored by one of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s top research scientists earned the prestigious "Superior Paper of 2006" award from The Tire Society.

The paper, titled "Modeling Transient Rolling Resistance of Tires," was co-authored by Dr. John Luchini of Cooper Tire and Jim Popio of Smithers Scientific Services Inc. The paper was based on two years' research "about the ability of our technology to represent testing of tires using the 2001 version of the SAE standards," says Luchini.

"Winning just one of these awards stands as a lifetime goal for tire engineering scientists," says Dave Dryden, Cooper research and technical manager.

"Yet this marks the second time John Luchini has won the superior paper award from The Tire Society, and the fourth time Cooper researchers have won."

The Tire Society Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation with worldwide membership. According to its charter, is it is designed to increase and disseminate knowledge as it pertains to the science and technology of tires.
