Sept. 21, 2007

Bridgestone Corp. has begun construction on its medium truck and bus tire plant near Stargard, Poland. The factory will start production in early 2009.

Its initial output is projected to be 5,000 units per day, say Bridgestone officials.

More than 100 guests, including Bridgestone Europe CEO Takashi Urano and officials from the Polish government, recently attended a "foundation stone" event at the site.

"Each of the speakers (at the event) pointed to the importance of this huge investment in the region, and its importance to the economy and the community," say Bridgestone officials.
