Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT) has broken ground on what will be its biggest distribution center, a Jacksonville, Fla., facility that will span one million square feet.

The warehouse will employ 250 people and will stock more than one million units, "ranging from small passenger and industrial (tires) to commercial truck tires," say BFNT officials.

It will ship to customers in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, and also will supply the eastern half of the United States with imports from Asia, plus the whole country with imported tires from Latin America.

Nelson Miller, BFNT vice president of logistics, says the company's

"primary motivation for selecting Jacksonville is its strategic location near the Port of Jacksonville, which is expanding and will give us the ability to provide overnight delivery service to more than 96% of our customers."
