Groupe Michelin has opened a new Michelin Retread Technologies Inc. (MRTI) tread manufacturing facility next to its passenger tire plant in Queretaro, Mexico.
The new plant represents a $40 million investment. Its production will mainly be earmarked for Mexico, but some MRTI tread will be exported to the United States and Canada, say Michelin officials. Michelin currently has 16 MRTI plants throughout Mexico.
"The retread market in Mexico is currently the seventh largest in the world with a growing demand for Michelin products,” says Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America Inc.
