Truck tonnage fell in May, says ATA

June 29, 2007

The American Trucking Associations' (ATA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index fell 1.3% in May following a 2.2% decrease in April.

ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello says that while May’s numbers were disappointing, they fit with the anecdotal reports from many fleets.

"Most carriers indicated that volumes were soft and spotty in May, which was clearly reflected in our index."
