Right to repair: a state-by-state update

June 22, 2007

Right to repair bills have been introduced in several states. Legislatures for four of those states -- New York, New Jersey, Maine and Massachusetts -- are still in session.

In New York, right to repair legislation has been introduced into the state Assembly for a second time. New Jersey has two right to repair bills. A Maine right to repair bill is still in play. And a bill was officially introduced into Massachusetts' House of Representatives last week.

Last week also marked the introduction of an updated version of the Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act (H.R. 2694) into the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.

No action has been taken on right to repair legislation in Florida and Oklahoma, whose legislatures have adjourned.
