Myers Industries will shutter three plants

June 8, 2007

Myers Industries Inc., parent company of Myers Tire Supply, plans to close three manufacturing facilities as part of its consolidation strategy.

Myers will close two lawn and garden products plants in Lugoff, S.C., and Brampton, Ontario, a Toronto suburb. The Akron, Ohio-based firm also will close a material handling products factory in Dawson Springs, Ky.

"The decision to close any facility is extremely difficult," says Myers CEO and President John Orr.

"But to remain competitive and position the business for the future, it is absolutely critical that we further consolidate work across our facilities to fully utilize our high-speed molding capacity, reduce operating costs and achieve greater efficiency gains."

Myers will incur total costs of $8.4 million before tax in

connection with the closings.
