O'Brien Tire marks 75th year in business

March 29, 2007

O'Brien Tire & Service Center has been a fixture in Granite City, Ill., since 1932.

The single-location dealership officially celebrated its 75th anniversary last week, co-owner Mark Buenger told moderntiredealer.com.

The company's founder, Jim O'Brien, "started with $132 in inventory and $100 in the bank," says Buenger.

Buenger and his brother, Scott, took control of O'Brien Tire 15 years ago after their father, Earl, retired. (Earl acquired the company in 1971, buying it from Bruce Marler, who originally bought it from Jim O'Brien.)

The seven-bay outlet sells Cooper, Bridgestone, Firestone and Hankook brand tires.
