Global union reps for Goodyear workers meet in Akron

March 20, 2007

Fifty delegates from 12 countries representing trade unions with members employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. met earlier this week in Akron, Ohio.

"Given Goodyear's increasing size and global scope, it is important that unions participating in the Goodyear Global Union Network re-commit their efforts to secure and promote rights for all workers worldwide at Goodyear," said a statement released after the meeting.

Representatives discussed working conditions at their respective Goodyear facilities, the economic climates in their respective homelands, and other issues.

"An extensive discussion of recent negotiations in the United States and Canada was conducted and the solidarity of the membership in both countries was applauded for enduring an 86-day strike and winning new contracts."
