Cooper-Kenda joint venture is up and running

March 1, 2007

The joint venture between Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. and Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd. has started to produce passenger and light truck tires.

Cooper and Kenda jointly operate a plant in Kunshan, China. Cooper CEO and President Roy Armes believes Cooper "can do some creative things" to ramp up production at the facility, which will eventually have the capacity to crank out 10 million to 12 million tires, according to Cooper officials.

Products made at the facility will be for export to North America and Europe.

Cooper and Kenda formed a 50/50 joint venture in late 2003.
