Pirelli has replaced Michelin North America Inc.'s BFGoodrich brand as the tire supplier for the 2008-2010 World Rally Championship seasons.
Pirelli's successful tender for the WRC supply contract "is the company's second such victory in the space of a few weeks," according to Pirelli officials.
The Italian tiremaker was selected by the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series in late January for a three-year fitment contract.
Michelin officials call the decision by the Federation Internationale De L'Automobile, the WRC's sanctioning body, "regrettable" given the brand's success during previous seasons and the fact that WRC car manufacturers "unanimously supported our proposal."
