TIA opposes anti-retread bill in Florida

Feb. 1, 2007

The Tire Industry Association has sent a letter to the Florida senator who last week introduced a bill that could outlaw the use of retreaded tires on the state's roads and highways.

This kind of legislation, which would have a devastating impact on the retread industry, pops up occasionally across the country," says TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.

"TIA will continue to adamantly oppose such ill-conceived initiatives. It’s just a question of educating the people involved. It doesn’t take much to come to an understanding about the high quality of retreads."

"It’s a stroke of luck that we are holding our Commercial Tire, Retread & Recycling Conference next week in the (Senator Victor Crist's) home district of Tampa," says Paul Fiore, TIA's director of government and business relations.

"We have invited Senator Crist to our seminars and are eager for him to take us up on the offer. We hope that a good look at the state of retreading today might change his thinking on the subject."
