Michelin's BFGoodrich brand wins Humvee contract

Michelin North America Inc.'s BFGoodrich Baja T/A tire will equip the U.S. military's Humvee vehicle. The tires will be made at Michelin's Fort Wayne, Ind., plant.

Production is scheduled to start in May.

"We already supply tires for most large military vehicles, and supplying tires for the Humvee makes good sense," says Jake Jordal, director of military products for Michelin's BFGoodrich brand.

The BFG Baja T/A, which has been specifically developed for military applications, carries an E Load Rating, giving it a load capacity of 4,540 pounds at 65 psi.

Last week, Michelin announced it has won a $1.7 billion contract to supply all four branches of the U.S. military with tires.
