Michelin Americas Truck Tires' new $1.7 billion supply contract with the United States military will cover 3.87 million tires over its 10-year span, a Michelin spokesperson has told moderntiredealer.com.
In addition to truck tires, Michelin will supply passenger, light truck and probably smaller OTR tires for all types of tactical vehicles.
"The contract is a logistics contract," says the spokesperson. This means that Michelin will source "both our tires and competitive tires. The military decides appropriate (criteria) for specific tires" that it wants to use.
When asked how the supply deal will affect Michelin's manufacturing capacity, the spokesperson said the company cannot comment at this time.
