TRIB will use grant to promote retreading in California

Jan. 23, 2007

The Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) will use a newly won $75,000 grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board to promote retreading to public sector fleets in that state.

The grant will run for 15 months, says TRIB Managing Director Harvey Brodsky.

"We will produce CDs and DVDs about retreading and tire maintenance for distribution to every public sector fleet throughout California.

"We also will conduct surveys of public sector fleets and then we will conduct approximately 40 retread/tire maintenance workshops throughout the state."

In addition, Brodsky says TRIB will create printed materials to accompany the aforementioned CDs and DVDs that will "outline steps fleets should take to make their tires more retreadable."

If the program is successful, TRIB will lobby other states for similar grants. "It's taken about a year to get this (grant)," he says.
