SEMA: 'Tires part of the urban lifestyle'

July 11, 2008

Tires are an important part of the urban lifestyle automotive market, according to a recent report from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

The study lists tires as the third most frequently purchased aftermarket component for urban lifestyle enthusiasts' vehicles. (The top two are wax and window tinting, respectively.)

Rounding out the list (in descending order) are air intakes, alarm systems, exhaust kits, custom wheels, stereo speakers and exterior lighting.

"Urban enthusiasts are more motivated to customize their vehicles to merely differentiate them from similar cars and trucks" than other auto enthusiast groups, says SEMA Market Research Analysts Ty Michael.
