AAPEX: Tenneco adds to Walker converter lines

Nov. 6, 2013

Among the new Walker parts introduced this year by Tenneco Inc. are hundreds of additional CalCat and Ultra converters, which are engineered to help automotive service providers restore emissions performance on a wide variety of late-model domestic and foreign nameplate passenger vehicles.

“We continue to expand our converter coverage to help distributors and service providers increase their share of one of the industry’s fastest growing categories,” says Steve Myers, director of product engineering, North America aftermarket emissions control, Tenneco. “By choosing Walker, our customers can be confident they will have access to the right technologies and leading coverage for their local markets.”

Tenneco more than doubled the size of the Walker CalCat line this year in response to rising demand for direct-fit converters that comply with California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards as well as the latest emissions requirements in New York state. CalCat converters are engineered with OE-style washcoats and the optimum precious metal loadings necessary to meet California’s more stringent emissions requirements.

In addition to CalCat converters, Tenneco continues to add to its line of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-compliant Walker Ultra direct-fit and universal converters for OBD II (1996 and newer) vehicles.  Among the new Ultra converters are many manifold-style units, which, like the original equipment converters on a growing number of OBD II vehicles, are designed to be installed directly onto the engine cylinder head. All Walker Ultra direct-fit converters feature OE-style pipe routing, flanges, hangers and enhanced heat shields for quick and easy installation and trouble-free performance.

The company also introduced more than 100 other emissions control components, including premium Walker Quiet-Flow SS stainless-steel exhaust assemblies and mufflers, DynoMax Ultra Flo Welded and DynoMax VT performance mufflers, and other parts. To help replacement parts distributors and service providers increase sales throughout the year, Tenneco introduces Walker and DynoMax products on a quarterly “continuous launch” basis.
