At the 2013 American Le Mans Series' Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda race on Saturday, Oct. 19, Bridgestone's DeltaWing coupe delivered its longest outing of the year, logging 209 laps during the endurance race.
The team reached as high as third place overall before mechanical issues ended the car’s day on the Road Atlanta course in Braselton, Ga.
The DeltaWing crew again opted for the most durable of the three available dry-condition compounds tire in the race, with excellent results. Co-driver Katherine Legge double-stinted on the initial set of Potenzas, logging 64 laps (162.56 miles) before switching to rain tires to combat wet track conditions. The team used both dry and rain tires extensively before a mechanical issue ended the day for DeltaWing.
“The DeltaWing partnership has been a tremendous opportunity for Bridgestone," said Brertt Schilling, staff compounder for Bridgestone Motorsport. "Although we were disappointed that the day ended early, we were able to run 64 laps on the initial set of slicks before the team opted for rain tires.
"That 162-mile stretch was the longest for a set in race action this year. Overall, both the dry and rain tires performed well in the finale. We have enjoyed the collaborative effort with DeltaWing and wish the team the best in the future.”
