One-minute managing to grow a dealership

Order Reprints

How do you manage a dealership through a recession? Dan Hennelly adopted the management approach advocated by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson in their book, “The One Minute Manager.”

The management style helped Dan and his wife Diane overcome the most challenging economic environment this nation has seen in decades to grow their dealership to 35 stores in just nine years.

The winners of the MTD 2013 Tire Dealer of the Year award operate The Tire Choice and Total Car Care stores based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

How do you manage in one-minute increments? Begin with one-minute goal setting. According to the authors, each goal and its performance standard should take no more than 250 words to express.
