Goodyear talks at an impasse? Union says 'never mind'

July 29, 2013

The United Steelworkers, or members thereof, have spoken. But they were wrong.

Prior to working out the details for a new master contract with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the union reportedly characterized negotiations at an "impasse." One day, the union was on the brink of a strike. Two days later, both sides were in agreement!

Do those two events contradict each other?

Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich did not like the way the union acted at the tail end of the contract talks. And he liked how Goodyear reacted.

To read about why Ulrich is so disappointed in the union, read his latest blog, "Union needs a dictionary, but tentatively agrees with Goodyear anyway."

Do you think the union was being melodramatic and worse, as Ulrich contends? Or were its members in the right? Read the blog, then let us know what you think (no swear words, please) by leaving a comment!
