Muscle Milk Honda and Chevrolet Corvette Earn Michelin Green X Challenge

July 23, 2013

On a race track where there are no half measures, two cars starting at opposite ends of the grid each delivered clean, fast and efficient performance to win the  Michelin Green X Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.

Capturing both the Michelin Green X Challenge Prototype award and the American Le Mans Series race victory for the second consecutive event was the championship leading Muscle Milk Pickett Racing Honda driven by Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr.

Dominating the competition of the high speed 2.459-mile circuit, the Muscle Milk Honda won the pole, led the entire two-hour, 45-minute race and set a fastest race lap nearly two seconds quicker than its best in winning the 2012 race here.

“This was the best car we have had all year,” said Graf. “We ran the new wide front Michelin tires and that helped us be more consistent and efficient.”

It was a different story for the Michelin Green X Challenge GT award winners, the #3 Corvette Racing C6.R of Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.  Magnussen was second quickest in the GT class qualifying when he caught a bump and hit the wall in a valiant attempt to secure the pole position in the session’s final moments.

The Corvette Racing team worked until midnight to rebuild the car from the chassis up. Their precision in delivering a clean, fast and efficient car paid big dividends. Despite starting from the back of the 32 car field, the team was rewarded with a fourth place finish in the race and its second Michelin Green X Challenge award of the season.

The award moves the No. 3 Corvette, Corvette Racing and Chevrolet into the lead for the Green Racing awards at the mid–point of the 10 race season.
