Tire sales at Sears: super duper or party pooper?

June 24, 2013

If Sears Holdings Corp. really wanted to promote its Sears Auto Centers service, perhaps it could have talked Warner Bros. Entertainment Co. into renaming its new film "Man of Steel Belts."

As it is, Sears had to settle for ad placements in the "Man of Steel," the new Superman movie. It is just one more way the once mighty mass merchandiser is trying to increase sales and get back to turning a profit.

Increasing tire sales are part of that strategy, although you would never know it by watching the film. For example, earlier this year, Sears re-introduced the RoadHandler private brand.

Just how much money has Sears been losing? How does the company plan to increase tire sales?
