Lowes dominates Donington with the Yamaha YZF-R6

May 28, 2013

Yakhnich Yamaha Motorsport rider Sam Lowes delivered a perfect performance at Donington last weekend to take his third consecutive World Supersport victory aboard the Yamaha YZF-R6.

The young British rider made his intentions clear for his home race from the start of the weekend, taking his third consecutive pole of the season, his ninth career pole, with a new record - 1’30.276s - Best Lap of the Donington Park circuit.

The race itself saw more of the same dazzling performance for the Championship leader, Lowes incredibly delivering every single lap apart from the last inside 1’31 seconds on his R6 to take victory with an impressive 11-second lead on second placed rider Kenan Sofuoglu.

The victory and subsequent 25 point reward puts Lowes on 95 points, 30 ahead of Sofuoglu in second. The team will now move to Portugal for the next round at the Portimao Circuit in ten days time.

Sam Lowes, 1st
“I wanted to win this race at any cost! Thanks a lot to my team and to Yamaha, they helped me to do this! After the warm-up we changed some settings and I didn’t have to make too much effort to finish with such a good pace. Consistency from now on is the most important, I know we have to be satisfied with a 2nd or 3rd on the podium when it’s too difficult to go for the win.”
