Gas prices bite into parts, accessory purchases

June 5, 2008

Half of the respondents to a recent Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) survey said they are putting off the purchase of custom parts and accessories due to the high price of gas.

"The specialty equipment industry relies heavily on discretionary income and the enthusiasts who have income available to them to modify their vehciles," say SEMA officials.

However, a large percent (46%) of respondents to the survey said gas prices are not causing them to delay purchases. (Approximately 4% said they were "unsure.")

"Automotive customization is often associated as a lifestyle habit for enthusiasts."
