TBC stores to help fight pediatric cancer

June 5, 2008

TBC Corp.'s company-owned retail network, which consists of more than 670 stores, will work with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

TBC participants include its Tire Kingdom Inc., Merchants and National Tire & Battery chains. TBC's Big O Tires Inc. franchise network also will solicit donations in support of the charity, starting next month.

The campaign, which starts tomorrow and runs through June 9, emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of Alexandra "Alex" Scott, who died in 2004 at the age of six.

"At the age of 4, she announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer," note TBC officials.

"Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country."

To date, the foundation has raised more than $19 million.
