NASCAR vs. disco? Discount Tire has new ads

April 4, 2013

Discount Tire is launching a television advertising campaign with two of 30-second spots featuring the drivers of the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang in the Nationwide Series.

The spots featuring the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Brad Keselowski and his Penske Racing teammate Joey Logano, will debut April 8, 2013, on sports cable TV programming nationwide. The spots are currently posted on YouTube (links below).

Both TV spots show Keselowski and Logano dressed in their Discount Tire firesuits while each driver dons something unexpected -- a wig reminiscent of the 1970s disco era.

Leading off is Discount Tire’s “Big Wigs” spot that is anchored by the retailer’s classic 1975 “Thank You” commercial with the now infamous little old lady throwing a tire through a Discount Tire store window.

The second, “Brad and Joey are not actors,” is a blooper spot that was inspired by the raw outtakes from the pair of pro drivers who turned amateur actors for Discount Tire’s TV campaign.

Each spot uses humor to drive home the message that Discount Tire offers customers the best brands of tires and wheels all at prices so low, they will make you feel like a “Big Wig.”

Keselowski also won the 2010 Nationwide Series Championship as driver of the Discount Tire No. 22 car. In 2013, the NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 22 team is comprised of drivers Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney.
