Renezeder grabs three wins at Firebird

March 21, 2013

The 2013 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) started in dynamic fashion at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, AZ and Team GT’s, Carl Renezeder, picked up right where he left off in 2012, on top of the podium.

Renezeder made a statement from the word go when he powered his way to the front of the field in Pro 4 action to capture his 105th career win, 40 seconds ahead of second-place Kyle LeDuc.  In Pro 2 competition Robby Woods started from the pole but it was Renezeder who came from mid-pack on his red letter Grabber’s to finish second.

The Pro Lite race on day one had a mixed bag of rookies and veteran’s.  Team GT’s, Casey Currie, sliced and diced his way through the field inching closer to the front lap after lap.  It was in the closing laps that he surfaced in fifth and quickly moved his way to third where he would finish the day.

Day two at Firebird was filled with thrills and spills.  In Pro 4 action, while making a strong run to the front, Josh Merrell made contact with another truck and flipped multiple times landing right side up.  Watch the video to see Merrell emerge from the truck and talk about the accident that he walked away from.  A true testament to the safety innovations in racing and the hard work of Merrell’s race team.

The accident brought out a lengthy red flag for clean up but then it was back to business for the remaining trucks.  Renezeder put on a spectacular show for the fans picking up where he left off Saturday, in the winner’s circle.  If you’re counting, that’s career win 106 for Renezeder…but he wasn’t done yet.

In the final race of the weekend it took drivers 33 laps to complete 20 green flag laps in Pro 2 competition.  Following an early race incident that sent him off-track, Renezeder used the traction of his Grabber’s to quickly move himself back into the fray.  By lap 27 of 33, Renezeder was at the front of the field and getting out his broom, as he was about to sweep the day with another win, this time in Pro 2.  The win brought Renezeder’s total on the weekend to three wins and a second place.  Not too shabby for the California-native.

LOORRS returns to racing April 26-28 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, NV.  For more information or to buy tickets, visit www.lucasoiloffroad.com.
