NC dealers oppose bill to end safety inspections

March 19, 2013

The North Carolina Tire Dealers Assocation (NCTDA) is concentrating efforts to stop a proposal to eliminate safety inspection and emission inspection requirements.

The NTDCA says the language of Senate Bill S-194 totally deletes the safety side of the Inspection program. The association also says the proposed measure follows last year’s emissions reduction on vehicles three years old or newer.

“We see vehicles coming into our shops that require needed repairs to maintain the integrity of safety to the motoring public” says Tony Tripp, government affairs chair for the NCTDA.

“This is and should be the top priority of our elected officials. The business side of lost commerce revenues, employment, state and local sales taxes should be a close second of concern to government, and certainly is to our businesses and related industries,” says Tripp.
