Apollo launches uniform bias commercial tire

March 13, 2013

Apollo Tyres Ltd. has introduced to the Indian market the XMR cross ply steer axle tire designed for good mileage and structural durability.

Apollo says a new manufacturing approach is used with the XMR, uniform bias tire (UBT) technology. UBT ensures best performance by precisely assembling all the components having target dimension and mass on a tire-building machine, and subsequently vulcanized for uniform cure index throughout the tire structure.

This process also ensures minimum ‘splice overlap’ both at fabric ply preparation and minimise number of splices per tyre, thereby helping to produce ‘uniform casing’.

The XMR delivers the best cost of ownership in terms of total mileage; and the total mileage is derived from Initial Tread Mileage (ITM) and Retreaded Tire Mileage (RTM), notes Apollo.

“Apollo holds a leading market position in both drive and steer axle tires, with many brands leading in different segments,” says Satish Sharma, chief, India operations, Apollo Tyres Ltd. “With the introduction of tires like XT100K and XT 7 Gold+ in TBB lug design category, it has set a new bench mark in the premium mileage and load & mileage segment.

“To continue our leadership and create a benchmark in the cross ply category, especially when radialization is happening in the heavy commercial vehicle segment, it is important for us to have such differentiating products for the steer axle as well.”

Apollo says over 65% revenues of the Indian tire industry comes from commercial vehicle tires, where Apollo is a market leader.
