Bridgestone Firestone video contest for teens starts today

May 27, 2008

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC is accepting entries for its 2008 Safety Scholars Video Contest beginning today, May 27.

The three most compelling and effective safety-themed videos, which have to be student-made, will receive $5,000 college scholarships. The top 10 filmmakers will receive a new set of Bridgestone tires.

Car crashes claim the lives of more 16- to 21-year-olds than any other cause, according to Christine Karbowiak, vice president of public affairs for Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. "After challenging young people last year to create their own videos about auto and tire safety, we were extremely impressed with the talent, skill and passion of our nation’s youth."

Bridgestone Firestone says its contest site, www.SafetyScholars.com, received 1.3 million hits in 2007. Students entered nearly 300 videos last year.
