Small business group names Littlefield secretary

Feb. 6, 2013

Roy Littlefield, executive vice president of the Tire Industry Association, was elected secretary of the Small Business Legislative Council (SBLC) during its annual meeting on Feb. 5, 2013.

The SBLC was formed in 1977. It is a permanent, independent coalition of more than 50 trade and professional associations that share a common commitment to the future of small business. All policies of the SBLC are developed through a consensus among membership.

At the annual meeting, outgonig Chairman Gerard Murphy, president of the Washington, D.C., area New Auto Dealers Association, gave an overview of the SBLC's work in 2012, noting that resolution of two long-standing priorities, Alternative Minimum Tax relief and estate tax relief, had been achieved.

In addition to Littlefield, the following officers were elected, per SBLC by-laws:

* Paul Stalknecht, CEO and president, Air Conditioning Contractors of America, chairman;

* Georgia Foley, executive director of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association, chair-elect;

* Ralph Nappi, president of the Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies, treasurer.

Incoming Chairman Stalknecht pledged to continue to work on the challenges for the small business community. He observed that the unique strength of the SBLC is the ability to bring together the different sectors of the economy to work on the common interests they share as small businesses.

In 2013, SBLC will continue to pursue meaningful deficit reduction and comprehensive tax reform, and monitor health care policy implementation to ensure implementation is fair and balanced.
