Fourth CTNA truck tire joins SmartWay list

Dec. 17, 2009

A fourth medium truck tire from Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA), the HTL1 wide-base trailer tire, has been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Transport Partnership list.

The HTL1 contains 13/32-inch tread depth, an advanced fuel efficient compound, and other features.

"Based upon data provided by tire manufacturers and EPA testing and research, the EPA determined that certain tire models can provide a reduction in emissions and an estimated fuel savings of 3% or greater... when used on all three axles," say CTNA officials.

"The EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership recently verified that the HTL1 meets these qualifications for low rolling resistance."

Other CTNA truck tires that have received SmartWay certification include the Continental HSL2 steer tire, the Continental HDL Eco Plus drive tire and the Continental HTL Eco Plus.
