Royal 4 Systems Inc. has developed an integrated warehouse management solutions software program for the tire industry: W.I.S.E.

W.I.S.E. (for Warehouse Information System Expert) software was designed to create custom tire- and wheel-specific bar code labels that contain any information needed for inventory tracking. They either can be printed upon receipt or pre-printed in anticipation of an order.

"W.I.S.E. planning gives visibility to each store's inventory balance," says the company. It not only can help with warehouse operations in general, but also order management, forecasting, integration, shipping and demand replenishment needs in particular.

The multi-lingual software helps a tire dealer organize inventory for a variety of purposes, including:

* storing snow tires. (A label is printed with the customer's contact information; the tires are then directed to the available space, and the space is scanned and recorded in W.I.S.E.).

* meeting NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) regulations.

* keeping track of a tire's age. "With our dynamic alert system, we know exactly which tires are reaching a certain age so these tires get picked first," says the company.

In addition, tire dealers may want to use different cross reference numbers when receiving a tire. "Through 'aliases,' we can assign virtually unlimited cross references to a given item," says Royal 4.

"The most common application here is referencing a manufacturer's item ID number to your item ID number. The W.I.S.E. customer item cross reference tables permit you to scan in the customer's item number, and the system will automatically transpose that number into your item number referencing any tire or wheel."

W.I.S.E. customers include Englewood Tire Distributors Inc. in Lyndhurst, N.J.; Somerset Tire Service Inc. in Bound Brook, N.J.; and Good Roads Wholesale in Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, Fla. For more information, visit
