Sullivan Tire to receive Business of the Year award

May 14, 2008

On May 20, Sullivan Tire & Auto Service will receive the 2008 Business of the Year award from the Rockland (Mass.) Chamber of Commerce.

Each year, the Rockland Chamber of Commerce recognizes a local business for good business practices and community involvement. This year the award will be presented to Sullivan Tire Vice President Paul Sullivan by Rockland Chamber President John Ward.

Robert J. Sullivan started Sullivan Tire in 1955 with his simple business plan of “treat everyone, customers and fellow employees, as you would a member of your family,” the company says.

From a six-room shack in Rockland, Sullivan Tire has grown to become a successful, large-scale automotive business with 61 wholesale, commercial, and retail outlets and 830 employees. It is the 10th largest domestic independent tire store chain, according to Modern Tire Dealer research.

Throughout its history, the company has remained a family-owned-and-operated business, true to the values of its founder, Bob Sullivan, who always believed in putting people first, reports the company.

“It’s been a long and rewarding journey and it all started in Rockland,” says Paul Sullivan, vice president of marketing, one of Bob Sullivan's 10 children. "We have great family memories of that first store, and it is an honor to receive this award from the Rockland Chamber of Commerce.”

Sullivan Tire has operated a retail store in Rockland for more than 50 years. For more information, see www.sullivantire.com.
