'Cash for Clunkers' program: Is it working?

Aug. 3, 2009

Is the Cash for Clunkers program working? It appears so, according to Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich.

In his latest blog, Ulrich points out that an estimated 250,000 vehicles were sold under the CARS Allowance Rebate System guidelines in the first week of its existence. Consumers brought their clunkers (as defined by the government) into the dealership and left with a more fuel-efficient vehicle reduced by $4,500.

However, there are flaws in the law, says the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association.
