Following a ratification vote by members of the United Steelworkers Local 2 in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will reduce staffing at its race tire production facility in "The Rubber City" by up to 120 positions.
"Reductions are necessary due to decreased demand and other internal process changes" at the plant, say Goodyear officials.
"Associates will have 14 days to sign up for the buyouts. If enough associates do not accept the offer, layoffs may be necessary."
Goodyear recently began labor contract talks with the Steelworkers.
