Three Pirelli class wins at the
2009 24-Hour Nürburgring race

May 28, 2009

Pirelli P Zero racing slicks helped the SP6 Class BMW Z4 M Coupe (420 hp), the SP8T Class BMW 135i (360 hp), and the team of Dr. Ulrich Bez’s SP 8 Class Aston Martin Vantage V 12 (more than 500 hp) win their respective classes at this past week’s 24-hour race at the legendary track. All other teams supported by Pirelli performed almost as well in terms of class positions: The SP10 GT4 Class Aston Martin Vantage powered by the “small” V8-engine, the second SP8T Class BMW 135i,  and the Bio-Ethanol powered Volvo C30 all earned the “silver medal” in their respective classes.

“All the teams we support have done a tremendous job,” says Peter Schimpf, Pirelli race director at the 24-hour-race. “Because of the surprisingly good weather conditions the race cars could go the whole race distance solely on slick tires. What’s more, almost all the teams managed to escape severe crashes or substantial defects. This is why the teams were able to tap the full potential of their cars, drivers and, of course, our tires – from our point of view it thus was a very satisfying 24-hour race in every single aspect.”
