Truck tonnage rose 1.7% last month

The truck tonnage rate edged 1.7% higher in February, marking the second consecutive month-to-month increase for tonnage.

Bob Costello, chief economist for the American Trucking Associations, says people should not read too much into the monthly increase.

There remains "weakness in freight movement" as fleets continue to operate "in a tough environment. There is nothing that suggests freight volumes are about to embark on a sustained recovery."
