Continental enhances fleet calculator

March 20, 2009

Continental Tire North America Inc. introduced enhancements to its ContCostCalculator for truck fleets at the Mid-America Trucking Show, being held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. The show, which opened on March 19, will run through March 21.

Introduced as a fuel-savings calculator in 2006, the new unit is a comprehensive tool that compares the total cost of ownership of different brands and models of truck tires.

Fleets that increase their miles-per-gallon efficiency will actually save more on their lifetime cost of tire ownership versus purchasing a tire with longer mileage, according to Tom Fanning, director of original equipment sales -- The Americas. "By reducing rolling resistance, tires require less energy for movement and, therefore, conserve more fuel."

The new features of the ContiCostCalculator will not only help evaluate fuel savings through rolling resistance data comparison, but also add in other factors of total tire cost, including base price, estimated lifetime mileage and tire casing value.

The ContiCostCalculator will be available in April 2009 through Continental sales representatives or local Continental tire dealers.
