Bayer wins at NHRS Nationals

Feb. 26, 2009

Thomas Bayer, driver of the Lucas Oil/Toyo Tires dragster, scored an NHRA national Super Comp class win during the 25th Annual Lucas Slick Mist NHRA Nationals at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona this past weekend.  Relying on Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks for his race winning consistency, Bayer defeated a field of 90 competitors and survived seven rounds of eliminations to take home a coveted “Wally.”  This is the second national Super Comp class victory for Bayer in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

During Sunday’s final round of competition, Bayer was paired against Larry Marshall who suffered a red light while trying to anticipate Bayer’s lightening fast reaction times.  Proving he is a force to reckon with, Bayer, who comes from Fontana, California, also competed in the Super Gas class with his 1962 Chevy Corvette race car.  Battling another field of 90 competitors, Bayer was one of the last six cars standing, lasting five out of seven rounds.

Bayer is on a roll for 2009, finishing runner-up by only 0.0018 seconds during the final round of Super Gas at the Winternationals in Pomona, California.

“There are hundreds of variables that can change my race car’s performance, the Toyo Proxes Drag Slick isn't one I have to worry about,” commented Bayer.

“We congratulate Thomas Bayer on winning a well-fought battle this past weekend, posting his second NHRA national Super Comp class victory,” said Stan Chen, manager of motorsports and events, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.  “This win demonstrates the capabilities of our Proxes Drag Slicks when facing down a huge field of formidable competitors.”

Thomas Bayer has enjoyed several years of winning with Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks.  He won the Super Comp Association of Southern California Championship in 2004, the SCEDA Championship in 2005 and both the Super Gas and Super Comp Championships for 2006 in NHRA Division 7.  In all, Bayer has won more than 40 events during the past six years on Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks.
