Hercules, Pro Comp light truck tires are under recall

April 15, 2008

Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. and Pro Competition Tire Co. have sent out notice that several thousand size LT265/75R16 tires made for them by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. are under recall.

Approximately 2,005 Hercules tires in that size are being recalled, while 1,206 Pro Comp tires in the same size are being recalled. The tires were built between Dec. 2, 2007, and Jan. 12, 2008.

"After testing, a bulge can occur in the lower sidewall on the white sidewall side, which indicates the existence of a separation between two lower sidewall components," reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Last week, Nokian Tyres plc sent out notice that 931 tires (size LT265/75R16) made by Cooper were under recall for the same reason.

TBC Corp., American Car Care Centers Inc. (ACCC) and SURE Tire Inc. also are notifying customers that some 18,000 light truck tires made for them by Cooper are part of a greater voluntary recall by Cooper that is currently taking place. (For more information, see "TBC, ACCC and SURE light truck tires part of Cooper recall," posted on moderntiredealer.com on April 4.)

Cooper is in the process of recalling approximately 48,037 light truck tires as a safety precaution.
