Continental Tire supports GLOBE Program at UNC

Dec. 8, 2006

Continental Tire North America Inc. has committed to a three-year, $75,000 educational scholarship program with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). The money will support the GLOBE Program (Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education) at Kenan-Flagler Business School.

"Providing opportunities for students to learn about global business by studying outside the United States is a priority," says Steve Jones, dean of UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School.

UNC partnered with Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Copenhagen Business School (CBS) to offer the innovative program for undergraduate business students. Each school focuses on a different aspect of business education.

* UNC Kenan-Flagler focuses on new ventures and entrepreneurship;

* CUHK professors teach Asian business and marketing; and

* Copenhagen Business School is honing students' knowledge of European business strategy and EU institutions.

Benefits to students include studying together at all three campuses, learning about international business from expert faculty at each school, receiving firsthand exposure to foreign business operations and culture, building a network they can rely upon in years to come, and working on collaborative learning within virtual teams.

Continental's scholarship program will provide partial scholarships to each of the 15 UNC Kenan-Flagler students in the program.

"We are proud of our relationship with UNC and this is a further commitment to offer worthy students an international business learning experience," says Travis Roffler, director of marketing.

The first GLOBE students started the three-year programs at CUHK and CBS in fall 2005. UNC's two-year undergraduate program started in fall 2006.
