Nokian completes second phase of Russian expansion

Nov. 22, 2006

Nokian Tyres plc has added a warehouse and mixing department to its factory in Russia.

The 19,000-square-meter warehouse can house approximately 600,000 tires.

"The new mixing department enables the company to produce rubber compounds for tire production locally in Russia and end deliveries from the Nokia factory in Finland," say Nokian officials.

Nokian says the Russian plant will have a four million tire capacity by 2008. Currently the factory produces some 6,000 tires per day.

During the first nine months of 2006, Nokian's sales in Russia increased 70% over the same period in 2005.
