Continental introduces ContiSportContact 3 line to North American market

Oct. 30, 2006

Launched in Europe in early 2006, the ContiSportContact 3 performance tire line is now available in North America from Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA).

Developed for high performance vehicles, the ContiSportContact 3 tire is geared to provide shorter braking distances, enhanced handling characteristics and optimum grip on wet roads.

Features include an asymmetrical tread pattern for a high level of handling performance while cornering and during sharp driving maneuvres while delivering steering stability at higher speeds. The asymmetrical design of the tread resists deformation so the tire remains in constant contact with the road surface.

The ribbed tread design allows for even distribution of forces when braking. The fine sipes in the tread ribs have been incorporated to increase support of the tread elements and distribute the braking forces evenly across the entire contact patch. As a result, braking distances have been reduced, the company notes.

The tire's silica compound offers long tread wear as well as tration on dry or wet roads.

For high-powered rear-wheel-drive sports cars, the ContiSportContact 3 tire has a special tread pattern, which features a double rib in the tread center, a Y-shaped groove separating the two ribs and larger tread lugs. This design further enhances vehicle performance through increased stability, and enhanced steering response.

The new ContiSportContact 3 tire, approved as a fitment for Audi and Renault, is now available in 17- to 21-inch sizes.
