Aug. 30, 2006

Truck tonnage bounced back slightly during July following a drop the previous month, according to the American Trucking Associations.

Tonnage rose .7% last month; it fell .4% inJune.

"Volumes increased nicely in June, but the industry has yet to fully recover from the large decrease in volumes during the first quarter of the year," says ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello.

He credits July's gains to growth in retail sales and manufacturing activity.
