ATD will buy Samaritan Wholesale Tire in Minnesota

July 28, 2006

American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) will expand its reach across Minnesota and into Wisconsin with the acquisition of Minnetonka, Minn.-based Samaritan Wholesale Tire Co.

"Samaritan is a premier tire distributor in their geographic area," says ATD Chairman and CEO Dick Johnson.

"They have built a solid business based on strong management, efficient operations, and, most importantly, an unwavering commitment to customer service.

"The Samaritan Tire operation -- including its strong team of people -- will be an excellent complement to our existing Midwest distribution centers in Sioux Falls, S.D.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Lincoln, Neb."

Samaritan Tire currently operates one distribution center. It serves 1,075 customers, primarily in the eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Jay Halvorson, co-owner of Samaritan Tire since 1973, will join ATD and remain involved in the management of his old operation.

"The tire industry is rapidly evolving and the pace of change will accelerate over the next five years," he says.

"I am convinced that becoming a part of ATD's team will enable us to continue to grow our business. We are very excited about this opportunity."

ATD currently has 72 distribution centers servicing 36 states.
