Dansville, N.Y.-based Main Tire Exchange's retread plant has received ISO 9001:2000 certification.
"As ISO is designed, we had to meet all the criteria laid out by Bandag, Inc.," the company's retread supplier, says Main Tire owner Tim Shay.
"We had to establish operating criteria for each position in the shop, from initial inspection to final inspection, (and) establish turn times on customer retreads and over-all quality control.
"We have monthly internal audits that have to be submitted back to Bandag. If there are corrective actions needed, we have to repair the issue and again submit back to Bandag, showing (that) corrective actions have been completed."
The plant produces more than 200 retreads per day.
